An Automated External Defibrillator or AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in a patient, and is able to treat them by application of electrical therapy which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to re-establish an effective rhythm.
AEDs are designed to be simple to use for the layman, and the use of AEDs is taught in many first aid, first responder and basic life support (BLS) level CPR classes. AED Trainer units are designed to simulate the features and function of an AED with the exception of delivering an actual shock. CHEERS uses production AED Trainer units that follows the algorhythm of 2005 CPR and ECC Guidelines. These training units are the trainer version of an AED available in the market.
The advantage of using production AED Trainer Unit is that it gives the participant a "face-to-face" encounter with the operational buttons and pads of a particular brand of AED they will encounter in the field. This will familiarize them how a particular brand of AED functions and gives them the confidence to respond in an emergency. |
